military pass road, california

The Military Pass prospect is located on the north flank of Mt. Shasta near Weed, CA 40 miles south of the Oregon-California border. Shasta is a massive compound stratavolcano composed of four andesite eruptive centers constructed over the past 100,000 years. The recent massive Shastina and Hotlum cones were constructed in the last 10,000 years.
An estimated $1.2 million of prior exploration work was completed in the area. Dr. Jim Combs estimated the Vulcan properties can produce 150 MW to 335 MW.
The sites relative proximity to Mt. Shasta will require development with low visual impact and low environmental disturbance. Vulcan is planning a nearly invisible “Earth Plant” for this location, all of which is below the tree line. Shasta Nation Tribal officials, local residents and elected officials support this project for which Vulcan was called a paragon of community involvement for its sensitive, innovative programs. The Vulcan Native Restoration Fund will provide 5% of all project income to restore native plants (forests) and native cultures here.
Electricity will be delivered to the nearby Weed substation, thence to urban load centers via twin 115 kV transmission lines.
