native restoration fund projects
The Native Restoration Fund was formed out of the Native Restoration Project founded in 1999 by Steve Munson, CEO of Vulcan Power Company and Commissioner Jon Wellinghoff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, who was formerly a Vulcan director and power counsel.
With over 460 megawatts of power contracts signed and more in negotiation, Vulcan has committed to supporting the Native Restoration Fund with 5% of net operating profit for the duration of the power contracts. At least one half of the fund is designated to the restoration of native plants and lands in project regions, and up to half may be allocated to restoration of the human condition that is often neglected in rural areas.
Steve Munson has become a recognized policy expert in rangeland restoration. He is supported in this important progressive program by Sandy Lonsdale, Environmental Policy Consultant, who has a long conservation history working with the Sierra Club and other organizations, and has extensive knowledge of the forest and range environment.
Ongoing NRF programs include $20,000 for Shasta Indian Nation program seeking Federal re-recognition and funding for a local native plant park in Weed, CA.
